OUR VERY EXCITING NEWS
We are very excited to announce that our Junior Girls, as part of the Slí Cualann Team, have been selected to represent Ireland in the European Club Cup in Portugal in Sept. This is as a result
of their performances in 2014 and we are very proud indeed to accept this selection.
For those who are new to the clubs set-up, Slí Cualann is an amalgamation of five Co. Wicklow clubs, Greystones, Inbhear Dee, Roundwood, Bray Runners & Parnell, who’s athletes compete at
juvenile level under their individual clubs, but become Slí Cualann at Junior & Senior level.
A group of up to 20 athletes will compete on this team and it is a fantastic opportunity for these young athletes to go out and experience International competition. They are very proud
indeed to be representing their club & country and we are very busy fundraising towards this at present, as flights etc. are quite expensive. We have set up a Crowd Funding site at http://www.gofundme.com/europeanclubcup and all donations big & small will be greatly appreciated. Alternatively, donations can be handed in to
Theresa at the track at Shoreline Sports Park or to any of the coaches involved.
If anyone has any ideas for further fundraising or knows anyone who might like to help sponsor the team, please get in touch with Theresa asap.
SUMMER BREAK FOR ATHLETES
The majority of our athletes are now on a short break, with just the small number who are still competing continuing to train. As it has been a long hard season, unless athletes have
alternative instructions from their coaches, we recommend taking a complete break for about 2 weeks, after which athletes should start running every other day to gradually build up fitness again.
Start with 10-15 mins and after 3 or 4 runs increase this by 5 mins. Continue in this way and you will return in Sept. “fit to train” and not totally out of condition, making training for the
winter season a whole lot easier. The 7-8.30pm groups will return to training on Tues.1st Sept. and the 5-6pm & 6-7pm groups will return on Tues 8th Sept, allowing them a week to settle back
in to school first.
THANKS
As they finally get to take a well earned break, we would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to every one of the many volunteers who give up their time week in week out to help make Greystones
AC such a fantastic club! Our coaches: Aidan Hartnett, Buntu Mlisana, Christina Browne, Deirdre Kearney, Deirdre O’Neill, Eamonn Whelan, Emma O’Brien, Emer McNally, Fiona O’Connor, Helen
Dempsey, Joanne O’Shea, Joanna Pluck, Julie Fallon, Laura O’Neill, Muriel Drinkwater, Neil Brooks, Pauline Dallaghan, Ronan Nicholson, Sinead Daly, Steve Jones, Theresa
Kinane. Our junior coaches: Alannah O’Carroll, Ara Freeman, Conor Dempsey, Isobel Kenny, Lisa Dallaghan, Richael Browne, Susie McParland. Our check-in crew: Breda Hayes, Celina Purcell, Fiona
Ryan, Louise Casey, Louise Willoughby , Sandra Colgan. Apologies if I’ve left anyone out!
VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE
All athletes who have not attended training for more than 3 weeks before their group finished, need to contact the club if they intend to return in Sept. Otherwise they will be deemed to
have left the club. All groups for Sept.will be organised over the next couple of weeks and any available places offered to those on the waiting lists. There will be no way of adding athletes
back into the groups in Sept., so please use ‘Contact Us’ on www.greystonesac.com to leave us a message, if missing for a while and planning to return.
CONGRATULATIONS
Every weekend we are on the road to Tullamore, Belfast, Athlone etc. but what a fantastic Track & Field season we had again this year, with superb results from National Juveniles &
