Well done to everyone who trained so hard and competed so well during the Track & Field season again this year. It was a very, very long season for some of our athletes and also a very
successful season. As you will know from previous newsletters, our club athletes competed in many, many County, Provincial & National competitions from early May to mid August. and
covered themselves in glory throughout the entire season. A huge number of medals were won across a wide range of events and we have 4 National Champions for T&F in 2013. For a number of our
athletes, PB’s were run practically every time they raced with huge improvements in times during the season. We finished the season with the National League final on Aug 18th. where our men’s
team once again made the final, with the team being predominantly made up of GAC athletes and we finished a very respectable 6th………looking good for next year lads! Congratulations to all who
competed during the season, to all the medal winners during the season and to all who achieved new PB’s this season!
We are now looking forward to a great Cross Country (XC) season which is coming up very quickly indeed!
TRAINING
We hope that our older athletes are enjoying their short break and that our younger ones are well refreshed by now. At this stage almost all of the group 1& 2 members (7-8.30pm
groups) should already be back running (if they haven’t started already, begin with 15-20 mins for Group 1 and 10-15 mins for Group 2 every second day and increasing by 5 mins every
couple of runs), so that you return ready to train. These two groups will return to training on Wed 4th Sept. at 7pm.
All 6-7pm groups will return on Fri 6th Sept and the 5-6pm ‘Little Athletics’ group will return on Tues 10th Sept. This allows the children a chance to settle back into school
before starting training.
NB MEMBERSHIP LIST
As notified in many of our previous Newsletters, we have revised the members list and athletes who have not attended for a long period and haven’t contacted us as requested to explain absences
have been removed from our check-in sheets. Athletes who are not on the lists can not be admitted to the track, so if your child has not attended for a long period of time, please do not drop
them off without checking first. Should athletes who have been removed from the list for non attendance wish to return, they will have to go back on the waiting list until a place becomes
available again!
We have a lot of new applications for club membership again this Sept. so we are requesting that members who intend to return, but are unable to attend during the first week would text us on
0877730000 (only) to let us know. Please do not text Theresa or any of the other coaches with this information.
