IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ATHLETES AND PARENTS
A big welcome to all our new members who registered on Tues and Wed last. As we informed you in previous newsletters, those who did not register and former members who haven’t been attending
training regularly during Sept have now been removed from the check-in sheets. These places have now been given to children on our waiting list. Anyone wishing to return to the club will have to
go on to the waiting list until a place becomes available. If unsure, please check with coaches before leaving children, as we cannot take responsibility for non club members.
It is the responsibility of parents to make sure children are collected on time after training sessions. Coaches are busy checking in the incoming groups and are unable to supervise collections
as well. We have tried unsuccessfully to get a roster going to cover this, so if people are willing to help out please let us know.
We are asking once again that athletes make sure to use the toilets before coming down to training as it causes huge problems if a coach has to leave a group to bring them up during the
session.
Parents and brothers/sisters are not allowed inside the track during training sessions, but are welcome to watch from outside the fence. Please note that the Outdoor Gym Equipment is for age 14
up only and children should not be allowed to play on this! (Health & Safety)
Athletes in the 7-8.30pm group have three training nights every week and need to attend a minimum of two of these in order to keep up with the group.Attending less than this is unfair to
yourself, the coaches and the other athletes in your group! There is also an organised training run on Sunday mornings for these groups……please attend if at all possible as this is a very
important part of your training! Winter training is very important for all athletes, as it sets the groundwork for the whole year!
SHORELINE FACILITIES
Please note that we do not own the facilities at Shoreline Sports Park and it is not our club house. When you arrive for training you should only go into the building if you need to use the
bathrooms, otherwise go straight to the track and check in. We have a number of athletes hanging around the reception area, blocking the entrance for customers and then arriving down late to
training. This results in groups finishing late or not completing their sessions and is unfair to the coaches and athletes who arrive on time. Please note that both the building and the outdoor
facilities are monitored by CCTV cameras and any athlete seen causing damage or breaking rules will be asked to leave the club……no second chances!
COMPETITION
We have our County Championship Cross Countries over the next two Sundays and these are open to registered athletes only. All athletes can take part both weeks, as you can run in your own
age group one week and move up 1 age group the other week. Athletes need to arrive at 10.20am latest to allow for check-in and warm up. Younger athletes will be finished within the hour. Up to
U10’s all receive certs with their finishing places for completing their race. U11’s up are championship events with medals for the 1st three individuals only. There are also medals for the 1st
three teams and we need at least 4 for each team, so lets get everyone out there, please.
Please wear club singlet/T-shirt if you have one, otherwise a red or white T-shirt!

XC LEAGUE
Well done to everyone who took part in Round 1 of the XC league last Friday. There was a fantastic turn out from our younger athletes, but we fell down in the U14/U15 groups. We are leading
the points table at the moment, but will need to keep the numbers up if we are to win the Shield back from Inbhear Dee who are not too far behind us. We need as many points as possible from all
age groups. Round 2 will take place in late Oct..
CLUB SHOP
For those wanting club gear for the XC, our club shop will be open on Tues next 2nd Oct. from 6.30 – 7.30pm. We have club singlets, shorts, t-shirts, hoodies, rain jackets, and more at cost
price. We also have a small number of 2nd hand spikes in stock. We have moved the shop to a new room where it will be located from now on. When you enter the reception area turn left and follow
the signs.
Billy Porter, Avondale Sports, will also be present on Tues. from 7pm with Spikes in great new colours (€10 off) and runners at greatly reduced prices, for anyone who needs them.
HELP NEEDED
We have a good number of committed coaches helping out and would like to welcome Ross to the team. We are still looking for more volunteers to lighten the load, so please call Theresa 0868635797
if you can spare an hour a week or even every other week. We promise not to throw you in at the deep end. New recruits work with one of our experienced coaches and we also send them on a short
coaching course. Ideally, we would love to have two coaches with each of the younger groups, at all sessions.
VERY SPECIAL VISITOR
Over the next week or two we are expecting a visit from a very special athlete indeed. Katie Taylor has agreed to make a special visit to our club to meet with our athletes and show you all
her Olympic Gold Medal. As she is very very busy with training and other commitments we don’t have a specific day yet, but regular attendance at training will ensure that you don’t miss out on
this very special occasion!
