Newsletter

Welcome back to all our athletes and a big welcome to all our new members. We have been inundated with applications for membership and have a numbers of young athletes on a two week trial at the moment. Those who have decided to become club members have two opportunities to register next week. Registration will take place at  Shoreline Sports Park on Tues 25th from 6.00-7.30pm and on Wed 26th from 6-7pm only. Those who fail to register at these times will have to go back on the waiting list as we have big numbers still waiting to join. We cannot take registrations at training sessions and unregistered athletes cannot attend training sessions. Registration/Insurance for the remainder of 2012 is €20 for 1 and €15 for additional family members. Reg for new members of the ‘Little Athletics’ group can also be  paid at these times.. Athletes already registered for 2012, do not need to register again until January.
NB  SHORELINE FACILITIES
Please note that we do not own the facilities at Shoreline and while we have a great relationship with the staff, who are very helpful to our club, it is not their job to take club registrations or pick up after our athletes. After the 6-7pm session last Tues. the bathrooms were left in an appalling condition, with water, soap and tissues all over the place. This is unacceptable behaviour and will not be tolerated. Please note that both the building and the outdoor facilities are monitored by CCTV cameras and any athlete seen causing damage or breaking  rules will be asked to leave the club……no second chances!
INTER-COUNTY COMPETITION
Well  done to everyone who represented Wicklow in the Leinster Inter-counties Team competition last Sat. in Navan. Congratulations  on a great day’s competition with fantastic results. Girls U14: Alannah O’Carroll, Alannah Ryan, Alison Dawson Whelan, Lisa Dallaghan, Rebecca Murphy, Richael Browne, Sinead O’Neill won the Silver medals, Boys U16: Cillian Browne, Conor Dempsey, Jamie Fallon, Luke Campion won Bronze medals, Girls U16: Anna Hayes, Ara Freeman, Isobel Kenny, Rosa Kirwan finished 4th.
BAG PACK
A big Thank You to everyone who helped out at the bag-pack on Sat. last and in particular to Helen and her team for organising everything. Money raised will be used to benefit all of our athletes!
TRAINING WEEKEND
As the response from our older athletes to the training weekend planned for the end of Sept. was very poor, we have decided not to go ahead with it at this time. We will try to organise some running workshops instead and incorporate the talks into these.
WORKSHOPS
We had some top class  workshops last week with expert tuition in Long jump, Triple jump, High jump and Hurdles. These were well attended, but sad to say  more athletes from outside clubs than from Greystones took part. Those who did attend found them very beneficial and look forward to more in the near future. Notice of throws workshops to follow and a training day for the younger groups will also be arranged shortly.
COMPETITION
Our younger athletes are first off this year, with the first round of the XC League taking place on the top field at the track in Greystones, on Fri 21st Sept.at 6.00pm. Events for all athletes Under 6/8/10/12/14/15.         Cost €2 per athlete, payable at the event.  League entry is not covered by the club. Round 2 in Bray.on 23rd November and Round 3 in Rathdrum on 14th December.
Please wear club singlet/T-shirt if you have one, otherwise  a  red or white T-shirt!
Please note that there will be no training on Fri 21st for the 6-7pm groups as we expect all our athletes will be at the XC. This will take place on the top football pitch at Shoreline Sports Park. Go through reception and follow the path to the top of the hill. Normal training for 7-8.30pm groups.
