Greystones AC once again produced an impressive set of individual and team performances at the weekend, over the uneven and intermediate cross country championships in Roundwood.
Sophie Dallaghan and Kate Murphy took part in the U7 event and both had a great run. We had 7 runners in the girls U9, all 7had a great race and were presented with certs at the finish. Shauna Dillane, Katie Lawless, Frances Dallaghan, Claudia Randels, Aisling Smith, Alice O’Neill and Thea McLoughlin. Ronan Dempsey had his first run for the club in the boys U9 and he too had a great run.
In the under 11 girls Alison Dawson Whelan claimed gold ahead of her team mate Sinead O'Neil who also had a great race, to take the silver. The rest of the girls finished strongly behind them, with Lisa Dallaghan in 4th, Rebecca Murphy 6th, Susie McParland 7th, Allanah O Carroll 8th, Aisling Dalby 9th, Aoife McTague 15th, Aoife Mc Donald 18th, Zoe Kerr 19th, Megan Yoder 24th, Rachel Whitten 25th and Catheine Casey 26th, and the girls easily took the team title.
In the U'11 boys race Cian Baldwin ran a superb race to win ahead of his club colleague Eric Dalby who also ran a fantastic race to take 2nd . With Louis Lalor, Marc Finn and Luke Horgan taking 7th, 8th and 9th spots, the boys, like the girls, also took the team title.
Rosa Kirwan was the clubs sole representative in the U'13 girls and she proved a force to be reckoned with as she cruised to victory, adding the U13 title to her U12 title of the previous week. The under 13 boys were fighting it out amongst themselves for the top places, with only one challenger to a clean sweep of the medals. Cillian Browne had to settle for joint 1st with Scott Howard, Luke Donoghue, Conor Dempsey, Lorcan Lalor and Eoin McTague, taking 3rd, 4th, 5th 6th and 11th positions and easily securing another team title for the club.
Aisling McCabe continued her good form by winning the U'15 girls race with Isobel O'Grady running strongly to finish in 10th place. Claire Fox another sole representative in her race for the club also took gold in the U'17s race comfortably leading from start to finish. Claire was also completing a double, having won the U16 title the previous week. In the under 19's Ellie Hartnett, Niamh Kearney, Aisling McGee and Isabel Malley won a hard fought team contest with Inbhear Dee finishing in 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th places respectively
In the intermediate men Ryan Montgomery took gold, for bragging rights during training this week, supported by AJ Cotter in 23rd position, who came back for another go at the XC, despite the hills in Avondale the week before.
Overall a very successful outing for the club, despite the low club turnout.
Once again, well done to all the athletes and thanks to everyone who helped out on the day.
Entries for the Leinster Even age competition on Sun 25th Oct are now due in.
The event will be held in Adamstown, Co. Wexford and is for U12’s up. Athletes may move up one age group, so anyone born 1992 to 1999 is eligible to take part in the juvenile events. Please give names at training, or text Theresa on 0868635797 this week, if you are available to go.
We cannot include late entries on teams at Leinster, so you need to get your names in asap.
We appeal to all eligible athletes to try to come out and represent our club at these events. It is a shame that we are failing to put out full teams when we have so many athletes in the club. In particular, we would like to see our 12-16 year olds making the effort to support their club mates and complete our teams.
The uneven age competition will be held in Tullamore on Sun 8th November and names can be given in for this as well. Races start at U11 so anyone born 1991 to 2000 can take part.
